Mr. Benson joined the firm in 2017 as a member of the Strategic Investment Group supporting strategic investment decisions, inorganic growth initiatives including mergers & acquisitions activities and new business formation for the firm. In addition, he has been responsible for short- and long-term financial planning, forecasting and capital allocation as a member of the Finance group. Currently, he supports the private sustainable infrastructure team through all phases of the transaction process, from identifying and evaluating opportunities, to transaction structuring, diligence, documentation and closing of acquisitions (and divestitures) of renewable energy projects. He also supports the ongoing asset management of the current renewable energy portfolio in various Ecofin funds. Prior to joining TortoiseEcofin, he served as an associate investment banker with Greentech Capital Advisors (now Nomura Greentech) where he focused on M&A advisory in the renewable energy, energy storage and energy efficiency sectors. There, he supported strategic transactions with global energy services companies and renewable energy asset developers and operators. He also held similar positions with Cowen and Company and Murray Devine, focusing on broad industrials sectors. Mr. Benson earned a Master of Science degree in finance from Villanova University and a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in finance as well as a minor in economics from Seton Hall University. Mr. Benson was a Division I athlete and Captain of the Men’s swimming team at Seton Hall University. He has passed the Series 79 and 63 exams.
