The electronic payment is the preferred payment for billions across the globe. An electronic payment is a way of paying for goods or services electronically instead of using cash or check, and would include forms of payment such as credit cards, electronic wallets, and mobile payments. Electronic transaction systems offer fast and secure methods of paying for goods and services for both consumers and businesses. As preferences continue to move further away from cash payments and towards electronic payments, the infrastructure and services required to support electronic payments increasingly become more critical to the modern global economy. Additionally, transactions keep growing with population, economic growth, and the development of emerging markets.

The Ecofin Global Digital Payments Infrastructure IndexSM represents the existing global electronic transactions landscape. It is a proprietary, rules-based, modified market capitalization-weighted, float-adjusted index comprised of companies that are materially engaged in electronic transactions, including merchant processing and settlement, real time record keeping, settlement networks, and Fintech products/ services that facilitate the ease, efficiency, and speed of electronic transactions. This includes companies whose primary business is comprised of one or a combination of the following categories: credit card networks, electronic transaction processing and associated products/services, credit card issuers, electronic transaction processing software (payments Fintech) or online financial services market places.

Methodology highlights

  • Transactions requirement: Requires 50% of gross revenues, operating income, EBITDA or assets be derived from the electronic transactions
